Free 3D models get a bad reputation because most of them are bad. Bad topology, wrong scale, broken materials, stolen renders. There are still serious sources out there for archviz work — you just need to know where to look. This is the 2026 shortlist.
1. 3DS Black (3dsblack.com)
The standout for interior-focused archviz. Models are organized by room, style, and brand with proper Corona and V-Ray materials ready to drop into a scene. The free tier covers the essentials.
2. CGTrader Free Section
Massive catalog with a useful free filter. Quality varies wildly — preview before you download. Search tips: filter by polycount and check the file format list.
3. TurboSquid Free Models
Curated better than CGTrader but smaller. Good for hero props and high-detail plants. Most free models here are usable as-is.
4. 3dsky.org
Russian-origin library, very strong on furniture and decor. English UI. Format support is wide (Max, Corona, V-Ray, FBX). Free downloads are limited per day.
5. Dimensions.Photo / Design Connected
Free weekly downloads of high-quality designer furniture. Excellent for branded hero pieces — Knoll, Fritz Hansen, Artemide. One model per week but the quality is consistent.
6. BlenderKit (for Max users)
Mostly Blender-native but FBX exports cleanly. Massive library of plants, materials, and small props. Use it for scatter vegetation and not much else.
7. Poliigon Free Tier
Materials, not models. The free tier rotates weekly but the quality is the same as the paid tier. Excellent for hero textures.
8. AmbientCG (formerly CC0 Textures)
Full PBR material sets under CC0. Seamless, well-shot, no license headaches. The default choice for environment props.
9. Unreal Engine Marketplace (Free)
Counterintuitive but the free monthly assets include high-quality photogrammetry scans. Useful as reference and as base meshes.
10. Blender Artists / 3ds Max community forums
Not a library — a network. Most serious archviz artists share models on forums like CGSociety or dedicated Discord servers. Quality is high because reputation matters.
What to avoid
Sketchfab downloads without license verification, anything labeled "high-poly game ready" (wrong scale, wrong topology for archviz), and anything with stolen watermarked preview renders. If the preview looks better than what you can make with the model, it is probably stolen.
