Acacia melanoxylon, commonly known as the Australian blackwood, is an Acacia species native in South eastern Australia. The species is also known as Blackwood, hickory, mudgerabah, Tasmanian blackwood, or blackwood acacia. Blackwood varies considerably in height from an evergreen shrub up to a large tree with a dense, pyramidal crown; it can grow from 6 - 45 meters tall. It is a fast growing nitrogen fixing species, able to grow on a variety of soils, prolifically produces seeds with extreme longevity.
