The scene has a TurboSmooth modifier - 2 Render iters, the stack is not collapsed. There is no modifier in the export file.
The pile is implemented by the displacement map. For close-up shots, I recommend setting Screen size: 1px in Render Setup> Performance> Displacement, for medium and long shots, this value can be increased to 2-3px. The previews shown are set to 2px.
The model was created in 3ds Max 19.
